Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Freshman Admission Criteria 

• General Requirements: 

ο High school graduation certificate earned within the past three years.

ο A minimum of 70% on the 12th grade in the UAE secondary school certificate (General and Advance Track) or its equivalent (for international students). Except in the Business program where a minimum score of 75% is required in the general track.

ο Mature students with a High school graduation certificate of more than three years, must
provide evidence of continuous studies or an employment letter.

ο Students applying for programs in the College of Health Sciences must meet required science subjects scores according to their track. For Environmental Health (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) in each year of the last three years of high school, and for Healthcare Management two science subjects (one must be chemistry or biology) in each year of the last three years of high school.

ο Male UAE nationals must meet the requirements of the national service before admissions.

 

• English proficiency: 

ο University admission:  

♦ TOEFL: 500

♦ IELTS: 5

♦ EmSAT: 1100 

• Arabic proficiency:

  • A minimum score of 1000 in EmSAT for Programs for which Instructional Language is Arabic.
  • A minimum score of 800 in EmSAT for programs in the College of Education.
  • A minimum score of 600 in EmSAT for programs in the College of Business.

• Other Requirements:

  • A minimum score of 600 in EmSAT Math for Business Programs for all high schools graduates.
  • Submit proof documents as requested by the Enrollment Office at the time of application that includes education and personal credentials and certificates.
  • Successful interview.

Freshman Conditional Admission Criteria 

The University provides a conditional offer for students that did not meet one of the following requirements:

1. Language competency score of their program.
2. Math competency score of their program.
3. Employment or working experience or evidence of continuous education for mature students that have high school diplomas more than 3 years old.
4. Missing authenticated documents at the time of admission.

 

Conditional admissions apply to the following students:

A) Freshman Student with University Gateway English Language Condition

This condition is only provided for students enrolled in a program at the College of Islamic and Arabic Studies and College of Health Sciences. The students at the time of admissions did not meet the required English language proficiency stated in point 2.1.1 (e.1)

 

The students in the College of Islamic and Arabic Studies will be given a conditional admission and must fulfill the following requirements in the first semester:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except meeting the language proficiency.
  • Enroll in English foundation Level: English for Academic Studies (EAS011) in the first
    semester.
  • Obtain 4.5 in the IELTS in the first semester.

 

The students in the College of Health Sciences will be given conditional admission and must fulfill the following requirements in the first semester:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated.
  • Enroll in English foundation Level: English for Academic Studies (EAS02 and EAS 03) in the first semester.
  • Obtain 5 in the IELTS at the end of the first semester.

B) Freshman Student with Program Gateway English Language Condition

This condition is only provided for students enrolled in a Program at JU for which the Instructional Language is English and at the time of admissions the students did not meet the English language gateway score of their program.

These students will be given a conditional admission and must fulfill the following
requirements:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except meeting the language proficiency.
  • Take English Gateway Exam Exam at the End of First Year. If a student did not obtain the required score, then he/she must register for EL 001 or EL 002 in the summer or in the fall semester.
  • Obtain the Gateway score in JU English Language Gateway Exam as outlined in their conditional offer at the end of their second academic year.
  • If a student failed to obtain the required score in JU English Language Gateway Exam, at the end of the second year, then their admissions to the program will be suspended for a maximum period of two semesters until they obtain the required English language gateway score.

During their suspension, students will be allowed to take College Requirement Courses in addition to the non-credit tutorial courses. Students will not be allowed to take any program courses until they pass the JU English language Gateway of their program.

Students may choose to take the English tutorial offered by LDA during Summer I and Summer II to reduce their suspension period.

C) Freshman Student with Conditional Letter from Ministry of Education
This condition is applicable to high graduates who have obtained a conditional letter from
Ministry of Education.

These students are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the
following requirements:

  • Successfully complete a Foundation Math course in their first semester.
  • Obtain a score of 500 in EmSAT math or 450 in SAT Math in the first semester for all programs except business where they must score 600 in EmSAT or 550 in SAT Math for University admissions.
  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated at the end of the semester.

D) Freshman Student with Arabic Language Condition

This condition is applicable to students enrolled in a Business or Education Program and at the time of admissions, the student did not meet the Arabic Language admissions requirement of their program.

These students are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the following
requirements:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except meeting the language proficiency.
  • For native Arabic Speakers: Obtain required EmSAT score in the Arabic Language as stated
    in freshmen students requirements by the end of the first semester.
  • Alternatively, Non-Native Arabic speakers may choose to complete a non-credit Arabic Basic Language Course in the first semester who are studying Business Program.

E) Freshman Student with High School Diploma more than 3 years old
This condition is applicable to students who have high school diplomas more than 3 years old
and do not have evidence of continuous studies or an employment letter.

These students are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the following
requirements:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except having a High school graduation certificate earned within the past three years & no evidence of continuous studies or employment letter.
  • Successfully pass the EmSAT 600; or
  • Successfully complete a Foundation Math course in their first semester if they are enrolled in the College of Business or Health Sciences.

F) Freshman Student with Missing documents

This condition is applicable to students who have successfully completed all admissions
requirements but have missing authenticated documents.

These students  are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the following
requirements:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students.
  • Submit missing documents within the first semester to the Enrollment Office otherwise their admission will be revoked. Acceptable missing documents are listed below:
    • Missing High School Equivalency, but submitted the receipt from MOE.
    • Expired passport and submitted evidence for renewal
    • Expired Emirates ID but submitted renewal application.
    • Expired Visa Residence but submitted renewal application.
    • Employment Letter for mature students.
    • Proof of continuous education documents for mature students.

Mature Student Admission Criteria 

This admission mode is applicable only to students with secondary school more than 3 years and not more than 10 years. This admission mode is applicable only to students who do not have the required English Language Proficiency Certificate. 

• Students with employment experience must submit an updated resume and experience certificates. 

• Students with no employment experience must complete SAT I with a minimum score of 360 in mathematics 

• SAT I certificate must be valid for at least 6 months from the application date; or 

• Applicants must pass the Jumeira University Math Placement Exam 

• Passing the Jumeira University admission interview 

Male UAE nationals must meet the requirements of the national service before admissions

• Secondary education: 

ο UAE General or Advanced secondary school certificate or equivalent

Students with relevant work experience must submit updated Curriculum Vitae (Resume) and experience certificates.

Students with no work experience must complete (SAT I) with a minimum score of 360 in Mathematics. SAT I score must be valid for at least six months from the application date or pass the JU Math Placement test.

Pass Interview.

Transfer Student Admission Criteria 

Transfer students are required to meet the following requirements:

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students.
  • Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on a scale of 4.0.
  • Transfer students must be from a university or college recognized or licensed by the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
  • Earned a grade of the transferred course must be “C” or higher.
  • Transferred credit courses must be at the same academic level.
  • Transfer credits must be on a 15+ week semester basis and face-to-face teaching hours per
    week. Quarter credits are calculated at 2/3 credit value of semester credits, with fractions of credits dropped.
  • Transfer students must meet admission requirements for English language proficiency either for the university or the program requirement.
  • Pass Interview.
  • Evaluation of transcripts will be conducted after the student has applied for admission at
    JU

Visiting Student Admission Criteria 
  • Enroll at JU for one semester or one Summer Term.
  • Obtain written permission from home university to be enrolled at JU (indicating the course(s) to be registered for)
  • Sign a document indicating the student’s full responsibility regarding the transferability of the courses taken at JU.
  • Taken Courses must be approved by the department chairs in the student’s respective
    college.
  • Meet the various academic and course prerequisite requirements.
  • Meet the language proficiency requirements of the selected course of study as outlined in
    the language admission requirements in the freshmen students requirements section.

Enroll in English foundation Level: English for Academic Studies (EAS011) in the first
semester.
Obtain 4 in the IELTS in the first academic year.

B) Freshman Student with Program Gateway English Language Condition
This condition is only provided for students enrolled in a Program at JU for which the
Instructional Language is English and at the time of admissions, the students did not meet the English language gateway score of their program.

These students will be given a conditional admission and must fulfill the following
requirements:

Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except meeting the language proficiency.
Enroll in English Language Tutoring Sessions ELT 001 or ELT 002 in their first or second
semester.

Obtain the Gateway score in JU English Language Gateway Exam as outlined in their
conditional offer Gateway at the end of their first academic year.

If a student failed to obtain the required score in JU English Language Gateway Exam,
then their admissions on the program will be suspended for a maximum period of two
semesters until they obtain the required English language gateway score.

During their suspension, students must enroll in a noncredit English language tutorial
session at JU learning and Development Academy. Otherwise, students may choose to exit
the program or change their major.

C) Freshman Student with Conditional Letter from Ministry of Education
This condition is applicable to high graduates who have obtained a conditional letter from
Ministry of Education.

These students are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the
following requirements:

Successfully complete a Foundation Math course in their first semester.
Obtain a score of 600 in EmSAT math or 500 in SAT Math in the first academic year.
Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated at the end of the
academic year.

D) Freshman Student with Arabic Language Condition
This condition is applicable to students enrolled in a JU Program and at the time of
admissions the student did not meet the Arabic Language admissions requirement of their
program.

These students are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the following
requirements:

Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except meeting the language proficiency.
For native Arabic Speakers: Obtain required EmSAT score in the Arabic Language as stated
in freshmen students requirements by the end of the first academic year.
For Non-Native Arabic speakers: Obtain EmSAT score of 600 in the Arabic Language by the
end of the first academic year or successfully complete a non-credit Arabic Basic
Language Course in the first academic year.

E) Freshman Student with High School Diploma more than 3 years old
This condition is applicable to students who have high school diploma more than 3 years old
and do not have evidence of continuous studies or an employment letter.

These students are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the following
requirements:

Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated except having a High school graduation certificate earned within the past three years & no evidence of continuous studies or employment letter.
Successfully pass the Math Placement Test; or
Successfully complete a Foundation Math course in their first semester if they are
enrolled in the College of Business or Health Sciences.
Enroll in JU mature students mentoring course.

F) Freshman Student with Missing documents

This condition is applicable to students who have successfully completed all admissions
requirements but have missing authenticated documents.

These students  are provided with a conditional offer and must meet the following
requirements:

Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students.

Transfer Student Admission Criteria 

• A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0

• Colleges of origin must be licensed and recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education in UAE.

• Credits are transferred on the following basis: 

ο Courses at the college of origin are instructed in 15+ weeks semester 

ο Instruction at the college of origin required the attendance of classes(face–to–face teaching) 

ο Quarter credits are transferred at 2/3 credit value of semester credits 

ο Fractional credits are dropped 

ο Only courses graded C or higher will be transferred 

ο Courses transferred at the same academic level

• Passing the admission interview

• Non-Native Arabic speakers must be the Jumeira University Arabic Language Placement Test

• Transcripts of origin college will be evaluated only after the transfer student has applied for admission at Jumeira University

Male UAE nationals must meet the requirements of the national service before admissions

Post Graduate Entry Requirements

Freshman Admission Criteria

An applicant for a master degree at the College of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language meet the following criteria:

  • Must have earned his/ her bachelor’s degree from an accredited university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent in the undergraduate work and in a major similar to that of the master program.
  • Must be of good conduct.
  • Submit two recommendation letters from professors or work supervisors who are familiar with his/her capacity for graduate-level work.
  • Submit, if an employee, a no-objection certificate from his/ her employer.
  • Meet Arabic Language Proficiency with a Minimum score of 1250 in EmSAT.
  • Submit an English language proficiency certificate with a score of at least 950 on the EmSAT or 4.5 on the IELTS or equivalent.
  • Must pass the personal interview.
  • Submit a personal statement of no less than 500 words explaining his/ her interests, the reasons for pursuing the degree, and the current achievements.

• Arabic Proficiency:

Transfer Student Admission Criteria 
  • Meet the same new student’s admission criteria.
  • The college or university transferred from must be recognized by the Ministry of Education, and the undergraduate degree earned must be with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • The transfer shall be accepted only for full-time students.
  • Must submit a detailed transcript of all the grades earned and the subjects covered to match their correspondence with the major subjects to be transferred to at JU.
  • The language of the major transferred from and that transferred to at JU is the same- Arabic Language- with the exception of some courses.
  • The maximum transferred credits to be accumulated for the corresponding courses at JU shall not exceed 9 credits with an average of “very good” each.
  • Must not have been dismissed from any university for misconduct or misbehavior.

Conditional Admission Criteria 

The applicant may be conditionally admitted in the following cases:

 

  • •Freshman Student with Arabic Language Condition

The applicant has met all the criteria except for obtaining the Arabic language proficiency test. In this case, the applicant must fulfill the following.

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated.
  • Obtain Arabic Language Proficiency with a Minimum score of 1250 in EmSAT by the end of the first semester.

 

  • •Freshman Student with English Language Condition

The applicant has met all the criteria except for obtaining the English language proficiency test. In this case, the applicant must fulfill the following.

 

  • Fulfill the same requirements as freshmen students stated.
  • Enroll in English foundation Level: English for Academic Studies (EAS011) in the first semester.
  • Obtain 4.5 in the IELTS in the first semester.
Visiting Student Admission Criteria 

Regular students at an accredited college or university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education may follow up their regular study at JU for one semester when meeting the following:

  • Prior approval issued by the home university- signed by the dean of the concerned college- indicating the course(s) the applicant wants to register at. Together, the applicant should sign a personal statement that he/ she holds themselves fully responsible for the courses to be studied at JU.
  • A letter addressed to JU, attached with is an official transcript issued by the home university.
  • The applicant must have already registered at courses accredited by one of the heads of departments at his/ her home college (with a full transcript so that the academic advisor at JU can identify the right courses for the visiting applicant).
  • Meet all other academic and study conditions.
  • Settle out all the study and registration fees.
