About JU 71

JU is proud to launch the JU71 Research initiative in response to the UAE centennial vision 2071.

The first was the UAE Centennial 2071, launched in March 2017, and the second was the principles of the 50, launched in September 2021. The third was launching the National Strategy for Higher Education 2030. The three initiatives inspired the UAE federal government to launch 62 federal level strategies and plans and 32 local governments strategies and techniques that are all serving the UAE Centennial 2071. The profound changes and development in the UAE government sectors motivated JU to revisit its research transition plan and vision.

The university leadership decided to revitalize its Research Strategy to be more adaptive to the UAE Centennial 2071 expected initiatives and projects. JU71 empowers JU to strategically reposition itself in the UAE higher education institutes as one of the leading universities in research outcomes and teaching quality in the next 10 years. JU71 will make research a significant building block for all learning and collaboration activities.

Research Strategy Building Blocks

(Derived from UAE Centennial 2071 & the Ten Principles of the 50th)

Islamic & Emiratis values, principles, ethics, culture, and beliefs will drive JU's research agenda in the next 50 years

The key national focus shall remain the strengthening of the union, its institutions, legislature, capabilities and finances. The development of the urban and rural economies throughout the nation is the fastest and most effective way to consolidate the union of the Emirates.

The core value system in the Emirates shall remain based on openness and tolerance, the preservation of rights, the rule of justice and the law. We believe in the preservation of human dignity, the respect for cultural diversity, the strengthening of human fraternity, together with enduring respect for our national identity. The country will remain supportive, through its foreign policy, of all initiatives, pledges and international organisations that promote peace, openness and humanity.

The Emirates’ foreign humanitarian aid is an essential part of its vision and moral duty towards less fortunate peoples. Our foreign humanitarian aid is not tied to religion, race, colour or culture. Political disagreement with any country should not justify failing to provide relief to that country in cases of disasters, emergencies and crises.

Community development is an integral part of UAE Centennial 2071. Some objectives in this regard include establishing a secure, tolerant, cohesive and ethical society that embraces happiness and a positive lifestyle and a high quality of life. The pillar also focuses on developing programmes to prepare future generations to serve as the UAE’s goodwill ambassadors, as well as promoting women's participation in all sectors, making the UAE one of the best places to live in

Excellence in Education is a cornerstone in all JU programs and activities to provide the UAE with talented and skilled human capital

The main future driver for growth is human capital. Developing the educational system, recruiting talent, retaining specialists and continuously building skills will be key to ensuring the Emirates remains the most competitive national economy.
Regarding education, UAE Centennial 2071 highlights the importance of excellent quality of education. Certain areas of focus in education include advanced science and technology, space science, engineering, innovation and health sciences. Other educational measures include teaching students, mechanisms for discovering their individual talents early. On the institutional level, educational institutions are encouraged to be incubators of entrepreneurship and innovation and to be international research centres.

Innovation & Business development fostering learning opportunities and research to achieve the UAE2071 Vision will remain JU's top priority.

We will strive over the upcoming period to build the best and most dynamic economy in the world. The economic development of the country is the supreme national interest, and all state institutions, in all fields and across different federal and local levels, shall bear the responsibility of building the best global economic environment and maintaining the gains achieved over the past 50 years.

Consolidating the reputation of the Emirates globally is a national mission for all institutions. The Emirates is one destination for business, tourism, industry, investment and cultural excellence. Our national institutions must unify their efforts, benefiting mutually from their shared capabilities, and work to build global enterprises under the umbrella of the Emirates.

The digital, technical and scientific excellence of the Emirates will define its development and economic frontiers. The consolidation of its position as a global hub for talent, companies and investments in these sectors will make it a future global leader.

The UAE’s economy is aimed to be competitive and one of the best economies worldwide. This can be achieved by increasing productivity of national economy, support of national companies, investment in scientific research and promising sectors, focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and advanced industries, development of a national strategy to shape the future of the UAE’s economy and industry, and place the UAE among international important economies. Knowledge economy can be achieved by a generation of UAE inventors and scientists and supporting them in technical sciences.

Health & Wellbeing is a significant and strategic area of research in JU as the health and wellbeing issues of the UAE community will shape all JU-related research and projects

The core value system in the Emirates shall remain based on openness and tolerance, the preservation of rights, the rule of justice and the law.
